Question Amp/cab specific question.

Ok, I have searched, and haven't quite grasped the concept yet.

I just dug an old GK Backline 600 out of my closet I thought didn't work, and I'm looking at the Ampeg 410HLF to get.

I played on the two at GC and they sounded great.

My question is, did I get lucky, and does it just sound good in that environment, or would it be a decent temporary match untill I get a better head?

The amp is rated 300watts at 4ohms, and the cab I think at 1000 at 4ohms.
Is that ok, or would I neeeed something more powerfull, as I heard this cab is a power sucker?

Thanks

If the G-K is functioning properly, it's a fine head, actually the same power section as an 800RB's main amp, just made overseas.
At over 100 lbs., the HLF is not my favorite cab. I A/B'd one with an SWR Goliath III, and the SWR seemed to stay cleaner with higher power, but it's also heavy at 89 lbs. There are lot's of neo 410s on the market now that I'd be looking at if wanting another.

I stand corrected. EDIT; Four online retailers have it at 110 lbs. although the Ampeg site says 85....

I was told (by GK) that the power section from the Backline 600 is the exact same one as from the 400RB (not sure about the 800RB).

When set "flat" the EQ is bass heavy. I'd recommend that you read Fdeck's white paper on the EQ section of the BL600. Not overboosting bass will help you save amplifier power (and generally be able to play louder)!
