Amp/cab wattage mismatch

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello, I'm new posting things here but I've always read threads concerning different topics about bass stuff so pardon me if this topic has been burned to the ground (which I'm sure it has).

Recently I got rid of my rig of about 5 years, an Ampeg SVT-350 head and a SVT410HE cab because of two reasons. First the size and weight made it hard to transport and second because I wanted to have a different, more modern sound. I've been looking for some years now and finally decided on what amp I want, a Markbass Little Mark. For the same reason I've been looking into a 2x10 cab to go along with the Markbass but one thing I've noticed is that most of these don't rise above a 400w line. I really wanted the Tc Electronic 210 but the Markbass is 100w over. In fact, Tc Electronic's lowest wattage amp is 450w. I'm not really sure how that works, but I would like to know if there will be any problems with the functionality. I'm looking for a clean enough tone, nothing gritty or dirty which are known to come out of mismatched combinations. Thanks and sorry for the n00bage.

Pssst...amps have this really useful feature called a volume knob.

+1 to Charlie's comment above.

However, even more to the point, the LMIII puts out about 300 watts into 8ohms and the full 500 into 4ohms. The RS210 is an 8ohm cab, so that is the perfect match.

The power ratings of cabs should only be used as a loose guideline for maximum power, and can pretty much be ignored.

The LMII/III and the RS210 is a fantastic combination. Just remember, you will only get so much volume out of a 210.. it isn't going to compete with a bit 410, even with more wattage going into it. However, it will sound great IMO (I think I have a clip of that combination on my Youtube channel).

+1. you can count on losing approx half of the quoted power handling abilities. but as long as you know to operate a volume knob, you will be fine.

btw, if you have an 8 ohm 210, which the tc 210 cabs are, the lmiii will only run at 300w.

Thanks guys. For some reason I was under the impression the tc 210 was a 4ohm cab.
