Amp cutting out

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello all, new to bass playing (last May) after years playing woodwind. Myself and a couple other lads have set up a three piece rock band.
Yesterday I was just jamming with our drummer and some of our new equipment. He already had a Behringer Eurorackpro RX1202FX pre-amp and mixer which I plugged my bass into, and via an XLR cable, we connected this into the back of his new Behringer Europower EP2000 amp. This then went to the single 8ohm RMS150w speaker we were using (the other speaker is at the guitarist's house) through a speakon to jack 16 gauge speaker lead.
Obviously all the volumes were turned right down due to the power handling of the amp when switched on. We did have it set in parallel mode as per the dip switches on the rear, but this shouldn't matter playing it to a single speaker on this occassion, should it? Obviuosly when gigging we'll be using both. We played through one channel and left the other unconnected. What happened is we found the amp cutting out halfway through a song but after stopping playing, it powered up again after around 15 seconds. This happened when the volume on the mixer was 1/2 way up, and the volume knob on the amp very low. We found if you turned the master volume down on the mixer and up on the amp it didn't cut out, but unfortunately didn't get to the desired volume. Why would it do this?
Thankyou, Mark.
