Has anyone tried one of these amps? I'm thinking of getting one for practice and small gigs.

I personally do not own, but have played through one.. A friend of mine does, and loves it. Great for practice, rehearsals and small Restaurant/jazz type gigs. For his more rock/funk type gigs he puts the Contra on top of one his 1-12" or 2-10" cabs.
Pretty much what you put through it is what comes out of it. Some guys think they're too clean, sterile sounding. Others love 'em because all they hear is the sound of their instrument uncolored.
They also have a model (Ten 2)with a forward firing 10 that's a little more up front sounding. It's also twice the $$.

I've had the Series II version for about eight years and still use it for practice today. I used the combo with an Acoustic Image extension cabinet for a couple gigs, sometimes with great results and other times with less than acceptable results. Great results were in a small bar. I used them at band practice for a couple years, and the drummer (40 years experience as a professional drummer) was always amazed at what they could do in our practice room. But I don't think the combo alone would work in a rock band unless you play at uncommonly low levels.

I haven't played through any of the combos, but I have a Clarus+ and I like it very much. I don't think it's sterile sounding.

Compared to the Contra, I think the Ten2 would be a safer bet with it's higher power and more speaker area, but of course it does cost a lot more.

I'd like to get a Ten2 cabinet w/docking station for my Clarus+, and even an additional Ten2 external cab to place underneath it, but my pair of Acme Low B2's is working nicely.
