Hey guys I have posted a couple things on here about my amp issues. I have a Hartke HA3500c head. Well its got some issue and i figured out where its coming from. I set something on top of it and it cut out. I did my little trick that seems to get it back going and then opened the case and tapped on this part and it cut out.

Not sure what it is as I dont know amp "guts" very well. Anyone know what this is?

Thanks!

Im guessing power supply after looking at it more, Its linked to the power in and then to a board. So it must convert power somehow. Just not sure what to call it so when I call hartke and try to get a new one I dont sound like an idiot and end up with a guitar jack or something.

That's the power transformer. Ordering a new one would probably be a mistake, as chances are from your description the fault lies in the connections to it.

It's the power transformer. Part of the power supply. Isolates the amp from the AC line while converting 120VAC to whatever voltage(s) that the amp needs. From their it goes to a rectifier (converts AC to pulsating DC), and then to filter caps (smooths out the DC) and possibly voltage regulators for the preamp. Sure that's the problem? Could be a problem with connections or connectors coming from the transfomer or nearby. A replacement transformer is probably not cheap.

Well I tried cleaning the connectors on the transformer and nothing changed, only way I can make it work after it cuts out is make the whole thing pop by unplugging my bass chord end very slow. It doesn't cut out when I play just when I transport the amp. I'll guess I'll just put myself on the market for something new.

Anyone know anything worthwhile with tube sound for around 500 bucks or is Hartke the only poor mans way to go to get tube sound with out a pedal or whatever. I don't like a ton of gear to play with just want an amp that does the trick.

What I have is used that's probably most of my problem, should have bought new.

A $149 Tech21 VT Bass pedal in front of any good sounding solid-state amp will give you a great "tube sound".

Before you go shopping why not take the amp to a tech. Your tapping, while a valid diagnostic tool, doesn't help if you don't know what you are looking at or where to go from there. it's probably something really simple if the amp can be made to work properly if only temporarily.
