Amp head box build for SVT 3 Pro...??

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got a SVT 3 Pro in a trade. I'm liking it and it might actually be creating some competition for my WalkAbout. I've been thinking about getting an amp box from Mesa for the WalkAbout, and it got me thinking about one for the Ampeg.

Has anyone build one for their amp head vs. getting a rack case? Pics?? It doesn't need to be an SVT 3 Pro build specifically, but just some type of custom build you did for your amp head to give me some ideas. I'm just curious what's out there.

I think that there is at least one in the Ampeg club thread...I think they used an SVT headcase.

With a rack mounted amp, you could buy rack rails and build whatever you like...Marshall style with the chassis on the bottom, or American style with the chassis on the top (I'd put some braces along the back of the chassis).

I built a head-case for my Mesa D-180, which is rackmount. It looks kinda DIY, though, being built from spare bits of wood I had laying around. It isn't that hard. Measure twice, cut once.

Here's my 3PRO in custom made case. I didn't have the money for original tolex, to I decided to put cheaper, "Marshall" like one.
The case is a little too deep to my taste, but it was made to match Classic series 15E and HE. Could be few cm shorter. It does not look allright on 810E (too deep) and a little weird on 410HLF (an inch or two deeper than the top of the cab)

Whatever you decide to mount it in make sure it has side vents of some sort. I had a custom rack built by Pearson cases with extra venting. It can get pretty warm.

Very cool. Great job on the build, even has a place to put Your pipe.

I did one a couple of years ago for some rack mounted heads I had. Nothing too complicated, but it got the job done.

This is very similar to what I was looking at doing. Where did you get the vented front metal plate from??

Believe it or not my svt iii pro came with a very similar factory unit. It was cool, but I ditched it years ago because it was heavy.
Now I carry mine in an skb, love it

I didn't realize Ampeg ever made such things. I know a case is easier, but I just like the look of an amp head. Plus, I don't use any other rack gear like a tuner, but might have to go that route due to power supply if my band gigs more.

I am almost certain I got it at Geetar Center.... The rest of the hardware came from Parts express, but I seem to remember getting that particular part at GC as an after-thought, as I was originaly gonna use a rackmount tuner and possibly get one of the custom rack mounted versions of the VT bass.
