Doesn't happen all the time, but it happens enough to hiss me off. Sometimes its so bad I gotta turn the vol down on my bass between songs.

Not sure what your rig consists of but have you tried a good power conditioner and or a hum eliminator?

Hiss or Hum? Hiss is usually caused by level mismatches combined with treble in your bass rig. Hum is usually causes by environmentals like florecent lighting or a bad ground...

Bad ground. I always bring an extra ground-rod with me. Or, try a different outlet.

If the noise goes away when you turn the bass down it could well be that your bass is the culprit. You might have to add shielding to your control cavity.
Please don't use texting in a post. It's annoying and, as I understand, against forum rules

Thanks everyone for the great advice. Most interesting was the one from bassmanpaul. I play only usa fenders and I think they have painted type of shielding. The hiss does stop when I turn the vol down on the bass though. Strange. I'll look into grounding.
Sorry about the text type of spelling earlier.

Is your bass active?? If so have you tried a new battery? I don't like paint as much as good old fashioned copper. Carvin used to sell a kit with self adhesive copper foil for about $20. I've not looked for it in a while but it might be worth checking out.
