Amp issue

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,

first of all my apologies if this thread is located in the wrong part of the forum, I'm new here.

Anyway, I have one of those ancient Marshall 5506 amps. Today I used my roommate's Boss distortion pedal (the guitar one) on my rig, just for fun. However, when I unplugged the pedal, the amp didn't respond anymore!

Now it just amplifies my bass at random intervals for about one fifth of a second, almost like a loose contact or something.

The amp has a send/receive setup for the effects on the front, so the bass is still directly plugged into the amp.

Any ideas?

Did you use the FX loop to connect the pedal? Try inserting a patch cable between the FX send and return and see if it fixes the problem.

Yeah that fixed the problem, but I still think it's weird :P

Try jiggling a 1/4" plug in and out of the jacks a few times, preferably with some contact cleaner spayed on it.

Sounds like your amp's FX loop in or out jack has a stuck contact. It still thinks a plug is inserted, therefore bypassing the regular amp chain and sending the signal through the send/return.

If lbwdog's suggestion did not work, if you are skilled (and careful ) with electronics, you can pop the top and check out the jacks from the inside.

Ultimately, you need to find a way to identify which jack it is, and get it unstuck...
