Amp not working with bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Just bought a bass, my first (still very much a noob), and plugged into the amp I use for guitar, and cannot get any sound. It works perfectly for the guitar with the same cable. The bass is active, and has a battery. I tried a different battery that should be working, and still nothing.

The amp has a hi and lo input, tried both, along with fiddling with the knobs, both the amp (volume and tone) and bass.

It's this bass: http://www.nantelmusique.qc.ca/produ...328900506.aspx

Not sure what the issue could be! Thanks!

2 possible, very common issues :
dead battery (double check this one)
trs cable. You need to use a mono cable or the preamp won't work

Other than these, you may have a faulty bass. Try it on another amp.

Hmmm, so assuming it is not the battery, I'd need a mono TRS cable? For some reason stereo would not work? (Mind my noobishness!)

A TRS is "stereo" also can be used as a balanced cable (Tip Ring Sleeve). You need a standard "Mono" (unbalanced) TS (Tip Sleeve) cable. Many on board preamps will not work with a TRS cable as the "ring" connector will be ungrounded (no current flow from the battery).

Thanks.

So would this do: Nantel Music Store - Cables - Instrument Cables Should I specify Mono unbalanced TS cable if need be?

Thanks! I'll post back when I figure it out, or need more help. Hopefully the former!
