Cool Amp for Pep band/Metal Bands?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am primarily a metal bassist(mostly metalcore) and I decided instead of playing tuba this year in pep band i'm going to play bass guitar. I have a Peavey TKO115 combo amp but i'm going to be upgrading very soon.
I need an amp that can give a good tone for metalcore(the chugachuga slinkyish sound thru eq settings and such).

My bigger concern is wattage for a 100 person pep band(brass, woodwinds, and a drumset, then me on bass). What wattage would be best to cut thru the band?
Thanks
Nick

Will it be yours or will it belong to the school? I ask because if it will be the school's, you probably want something very durable, yet low-cost, perhaps a bigger Combo.

If it will be yours, tell us more about the music you are playing. Are you tuning down? 5-string?

Our school's whole marching band always had an audible bassist, usually running a 115 100w-ish? Hartke combo. It did a great job and sounded fine. Your TKO can probably suffice for the band, actually. Try it before you buy something tailored to the band.

+1

I tend to agree. However, for your metal band adventures, you may want to look into a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 or a GK 1001RB and a decent 4x10 or 2x12. Used gear is often a good way to get high quality for a lot less.

For $1049.00 you can get this http://www.carvinguitars.com/product...t=BX1500-10.4N Its what I use in a death/thrash band (Testament vs. Suffocation) tuned to drop C. It handles it with ease and every sound man who has PAed my band has always commented on how much they love it, not to mention other bassists.
