I was playing my bass today. My amp start to slowly get quieter then it starting making a cracking noise. I turned off my amp and let it sit for a minute then tried again and it worked fine. Then a little bit later it did it again. I have an ampeg b2re and a peavey 2x15. Is it just bad gear? Anybody else have this problem and maybe found a solution?
You have something overheating, or wearing out. Make sure that you don't have anything blocking the electronics vents. Not sure if that is a tube amp, but you may be in the market for a replacement tube in the near future.
it could just be dirty send/receive jacks causing your problem. they have switches in them that connect the preamp to the power amp section. you can either clean them, or use a short 1/4" to 1/4" patch (instr) cable to see if that alleviates the problem.
