Amp Rack Question

Sign in to disble this ad
I've never purchased a rack before so i had a quick question about it:

Say i purchase a 2-space rack for my amp. If it's a perfect fit (amp = 3.5, rack = 3.5) will it be bad for the amp? I'm just nervous about the fan on top of the unit not having room for ventilation.

I just don't want to damage the head.

Sorry if this is a "duh" sort of question, i just want to make sure before i purchase anything

Thanks!
Josh

Buy a three or four space rack case and leave the space(s) above the amp empty. You can fill the void with a ventilated plate to improve the look and still have air flow. Parts Express have these quite cheaply.

Get a rack at least 1u bigger than what you need.

I agree with Paul. 4 space rack with the above space left empty. Then you still have room for other things like a tuner or a rack mounted powerbar.

Depends on the amp you're racking - for example, I can tell you from plenty of experience that these have worked well:

They're both 700rb-IIs - here's a pic of a 700 in an SKB ATA 2U rackcase:

I've done plenty of gigs with this, in temps up to 95F, and never had a problem... The SKB has enough space above it to allow for enough cooling air intake for that amp - however, the other style of rackcase(Anvil, Calzone, Roadready, etc...) don't have as much clearance in a 2U rackcase...
