Amp recc?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys, newbie here.
I'm truly a rookie, been taking lessons for about 6 mo.
My basses are a 4003 Ric, Fender/Squier P, Ibanez SDGR, and a mint 1973 Attila Odyssey.
I have a cheap Fender Rumble practice bass amp, but it's now time to upgrade.
Torn between an Orange Terror 500/ SP212 combo, and an
Ashdown Mag C210-300 EvoII combo.
I won't be playing large gigs anytime soon, just for practice and smaller gigs. I like traditional rock, blues, and salsa.
Going for a deep, mellow tone.
Appreciate your suggestions.

Just my opinions:

A combo will restrict you in the future. Better off with a head and cab with option to add another cab or use a larger cab, etc in the future. The orange combo is a huge wad of cash for the funtionality of a single 12.....waaaaaaaaaaaaaay overpriced IMHO. The 2nd 12 allows only the ability to make the box smaller. It will NOT output like a 212. Why not consider a combo that allows you to remove the head and, or add another cab, or go separates? Budget?

Even though the Orange SP212 combo doesn't get louder than a 1x12, I think the point of the isobaric is that it goes DEEPER - and it does have a mellow tone. OP is "Going for a deep, mellow tone." Also, it has 600watts - and easy to tote around when the time comes. I give it a thumbs up.

Nice stuff for only 6 months into it! Keep it up!
