Hey, my little peavey combo just broke, and since I'm actually gigging with a band now I'm looking for a new amp. I like combos just because theyre convenient but I'm not opposed to getting a head and cab. I play all styles of music and don't want to spend more than $300. What do you guys think?
Go and find an amp that sounds good for you. When you are sure what sound /amp/cab you like, go for second hand. There are a lot of used amps, cabs or combos available on EBay, Craigslist - or even here in the classified.
Some models of GallienKrueger and Peavey are loud, built like a tank - and available. Have a look!
I agree with the above statement.
Just bought myself a GK 400rbii as a practice amp for my room with an Avatar 1x12 cab.
The tone is awesome, the volume surprised me.
Bought it for $200 used.
Amp can be for gigs.
I'm going to test it out soon with my Berg 6x10.
Used gear here on talkbass is your best bet.
Don't write off the head + cab combination - that will give you more options down the road.
