Amp Recommendation? Markbass Mini?

Sign in to disble this ad
I mainly play six-string guitar and am about to purchase a Fender P, probably an AV'62.

I'm looking for a compact bass combo that can put out a strong punch, one that is lightweight and relatively small for home use, rehearsals and small venues.

My search has lead me to the Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Combo. It sounded good in the store - which can be deceptive - and seems to get good reviews.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Sounds perfect for you. Doesn't have a headphone out if that's important.

I sold my Mini CMD 121P due to unfortunate circumstances and have been regretting it ever since. When I last researched it (some while back admittedly), the performance per pound (weight) was in a class of its own. It's priced accordingly!

Definitely an amazing amp..I've had one for three years now and it still puts a smile on my face when I crank it.

I have one and it's by far the best all around amp I've ever owned. ** It's basically used for practice and small Coffee House/Pub gigs as part of an acoustic duo/trio. I use a standard Jazz Bass and a 5 string acoustic electric bass and I set all the EQ knobs at 12:00 (flat) and have the VLE (Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator) on about 3:00. I play fingerstyle and the tone is to die for IMHO. I'm always looking for a used reasonably priced 1-12" New Yorker speaker cabinet in the case that I would play larger gigs or if we would add a drummer/percussion. But for this combo is actually more than enough. Master has never been turned above 2................
** I post this review after owning/playing through: Peavey, Fender, SWR, GK and Genz Benz combos.......

Just returned from my local music shop. Had a chance to play the Mini 121P again. It confirmed my first impress, i.e., it's a great little amp.

To complicate matters, I spent a good amount of time with CMD 102P 2x10 Combo as well and A/B'ing the two.

I love the Mini's small footprint and for my needs it's probably more that sufficient, but the 102P's added punch has muddied with waters...

Decisions, decisions...

I was just listening to this, not 5 hours ago at GC. I was impressed by the boom it gave. Volume shouldn't be an issue...

And if you want to muddy the waters some more, try the Jeff Berlin combo.
