Howdy folks. I've been pokin around looking at amp heads (for now) and had some questions that my reading has of yet not helped. Doubly unfortunate is that living in South Korea I can't find shops with a decent selection of amps that would be willing to let me jam out for a few hours in their amp room if they even have one. Currently I'm thinking more about the head and less about cabs as I don't have the transportation to handle that much gear and most venues I'll be giggin have excellent cabs around. The head is just for more consistency and for further shaping my sound.

Here's a quick description of my gear:

Hand-carved Chinese standup with a Realist. Bow is in use here as well as picking.

2008 G&L ASAT, no mods.

Tonebone Bassbone > Snake Charmer > Moogerfooger freqbox > Bass big muff pi > Boss ps-3 > line 6 echo park

Music style:

Think along the lines of a Portishead, Radiohead, NiN, and The Kills mashup. Nothing virtuosic but clarity of tone and lowend are a must. Also, fronted by a female singer who is not a screamer so I don't need an unstoppable force.

Also, let's not worry about pricing at this point. Assume I have all the money in the world. However, let's work on a "less rare the better" basis. Vintage gear is a rarity out here.

Questions:

1) given the above gear, would I be sacrificing clarity for warmth were I to go Solid State and vice versa were I to go tubes?

2) most venues I've played around here have decent PA systems. Given this, do I really need a 500-800watt master-blaster or will I get by ok with something in the 200-400watt range mic'd up?

3) any recommended reading material to learn more about amps in general?

Thanks y'all. Sorry if this is one of those dead horse topics. I did a search but got swamped in irrelevancy
