Amp repair advice
Hey guys. I just bought a new to me Carvin Pro Bass 2 from I believe the late 80s. I hooked it up and it powers fine, but the volume coming out is very low for what I thought it would and it scratches alot as I turn the volume up. I don't know if the volume is just gonna be how it is cause it's not a high powered amp or if the volume pot might be bad and it is effecting the performance. One thing I noticed is it seems to get louder within the scratching as I turn up likes its cutting in and out almost, but when I stop on a level it stays the same.
Any ideas on what my next step should be? I was gonna clean it first before thinking about replacing the pot, but I don't really know if that will make a difference.
I would just swap out the pot.
I'd bypass or short the potentiometer first, then replace it if that was the reason for the low volume.
Plenty else it could be than a bad pot. Squirt of switch cleaner into the pot would be step one. General clean up while its open.
