Amp Repair in NJ

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey TB'ers, I am in need of some amp repair for my Hartke 3500 2/10 combo - powers up but no sound. Can anyone recommend a good amp guy in Northern New Jersey? (I'm in Morris County). I should add, I've had this combo (along with a 1/15 XL series cab) since about 1993 or so. I would like to get it fixed but if it costs too much and it would make sense to get a new rig, then, so be it. Thanks in advance!

Amp Repair

I had repair work done on an EBS amp at Triple S, Inc. in Bloomfield,N.J. and I got very good service and 2 years later I have not had any problems. I would try there. Al

Give Dave's Sound Repair in Whippany a call. They are right on 10W. Dave Hirsch is the owner and amp guy and Bill Baker does all the guitar work. Nice guys, competent and very reasonably priced.

Good luck with your amp.

Thanks fellas - I found Dave's Sound repair in Whippany on the net but have never dealt with them so I'll give them a call (plus they are pretty close, only two towns away) and if not I'll look up Triple S in Bloomfield - thanks again for the advice!

Check out Sommatone - My guitar player just had his fender twin tuned up there (while he waited). The guy runs a small shop in Chester, NJ.

Dennis Kager's shop. He's an old time ampeg guy. He owned Dennis Electronics in Union City, back in the 70's and 80's. I'm proud of the Dennis Electronics sticker on the back of my '77 V4B.
Good Luck,
Danny

A lot of Morris County musicians use Dave's. In fact, I learned that they are the default shop for the band I recently joined, The Fakers. Small world.

In my experience, Daves Sound was responsive when I first started using them, but ultimately Dave became less and less willing to estimate completion dates, eventually telling me on a couple occasions that he just wont tell me when he could get to something. Seemed somewhat arrogant. One item I took to him just sat there for a couple of months, and repeated calls to him resulted in the same response. He said i wouldnt belive how much stuff he had waiting for repairs and had no idea when he could even start. In a weird way he seemed almost proud of it. Maybe he's better now but I dont know. I had done a lot of business with him (and Bill) prior to that. I stopped going there and began using Dennis Kager for all my amp needs, as well as work on several Rhodes. Excellent knowledgable guy, one the original Ampeggers. Flawless work.

Another shout out for Dave's. He is the guy I go to first.

He does have a large backlog of work, and it takes him some time to get to things, but he did expedite a repair for me that I needed in a hurry. If you are in a hurry, you might look elsewhere, but I totally trust the quality of work he does. The extent of his backlog is a testament to how in demand he is.

Central Jersey music service does all of my setups for my Ric and they do a really good job. Definitely a good place to go to. I also tried Raritan Bay Guitar Repair to fix up my b15 and they were good, but a little expensive.

I know Andy Fuchs, Jimmy @ Sommatone and Dave @ Dave's sound repair.

I wouldn't trust anyone else to work on my stuff but Dave. Sure he is not always the easiest to deal with but he is the best and most consistent. Andy and Jimmy both are great builders and repairmen but for the item you are describing Dave is your guy. Plus he is in the same area.

I won't take my guitars to Raritan Bay on rt 9. They installed a push-pull tone switch on my 05 Ric. The switch did not work, stuck out like a sore thumb, and the bass was scratched! I had them take it out and they buffed out the scratches.I always had good results up to now but that sealed it. The amp guy did some work for me. I was satisfied with his work.

Is that place still open? Everytime I go there there's nobody home.

I've also used Triple S in Bloomfield. They did pretty good work for me.
