Hi Guys,
i just plugged in my main amp: it's an Ashdown mag300 combo, i reckon it's about 6/7 years old. It's not been gigged heavily but has been used regularly for most of those 6/7 years. I have a second amp at my rehearsal space which probably get's more use, so the ashdown get's 1 maybe 2 outings a month for small club gigs. I play soul/funk, never use any effects or pedals and the amp has no built in effects other than a sub harmonic thingy which i never use.

Anyway i've not plugged it in at the house for a long time, when i record it's normally direct to the board. But for whatever reason i decided to plug and play today (might have been the dub records i was listening to) anyway i noticed that there is a very slight distorted sound that seems to occur whenever i stike a note. it doesn't distort the whole note (if that makes any sense) and is less noticeable at higher volumes, which means it may have been happening for a while and i just haven't noticed because i only ever use it at gig volume. It doesn't seem to make any noise when i'm not playing, only when i strike a note.

Any idea what could be up? is this the beginning of the end or just something come loose? I've changed leads and guitars but still the same noise. It's hard to describe, almost sounds like something is vibrating or ringing out when it shouldn't be. i was convinced it was something to do with the foam mute on my strings vibrating because of how it sounded, but like i said i've eliminated that possibility by trying different guitars and leads, and also removing the foam.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Sounds a little like the output stage bias may have drifted. IOW crossover distortion. Time to take it to a tech.
