Amp setting for wicked StingRay sounds

So, I am interested in how you guys get some nice different sounds out of your StingRay. What are your settings?

I use a GK 700RB-II with high mids full, boosted low mids, a bit of boosted bass, treble set flat and contour and presence around 12'o clock.

Put the Contour knob at "0" all the way to the left. Boosting the low mids and using the contour knob is counter active. You are decreasing the mids one way and bringing them back another way. Set the Gain according to the manual, keep the controls on the bass in the middle, pickup selector knob to taste, amp controls to the neutral settings and go from there. Your playing style is going to be the most important part for "wicked stingray tones". Try getting the volume up first, then small boosts and cuts on the tone knobs while playing your bass. Trust me, it will sound much better that way and you will figure out how to get the sound you want.

What kind of strings are you using? I highly suggest Stainless Steel Roundwounds - any brand.

+1 on Stainless Rounds and the SR. They go together like peanut butter and ladies.

Thanks for the advice, but I was just looking for some different settings people like to use with their stingrays. I use nickel rounds, because I like the sound of nickels, though I might try steels again in the near future.

I would suggest DR HI-Beams. Very nice growl in the upper registers and plenty of low end. The high end is clear without being overly annoying. They would definitely get the "wicked Stingray" tones you are probably looking for.

In general, Nickels are a little less bright, warmer sounding and do not growl like Steel strings do. It's tougher to get a wild tone with nickels, but much easier with steels.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually have tried Hi-Beams on several occasions (and found Fat-Beams the better string ;p). I think I will give rounds another try in the future, but I was not per se looking for my ''wicked stingray tone'', just a couple of examples other people tend to use.

I often run my amp completely flat. I get the variety of Stingray tones by changing where I pluck the strings.
