Amp shopping

Sign in to disble this ad
howdy folks - long timer reader.

I've been shopping around for a bass amp lately. I tried all the major hitters that local stores stock, and what I've come with is that I'd like something somewhere in between a GK 700rb and an Ashdown 300 MAG. Any suggestions in that tone range?

Relevant stuff:
I play a 5 string
~300 watts
I want to use a 15 cab and a 2x10 cab
Under 50 lbs would be great.

I played one of the new Acoustics and liked it quite a bit, but haven't given them a serious go yet.

I'm in Minneapolis, so I'm close to dozens of stores. I'd like to get the head for under $600 - and I'm not opposed to tracking down any used/OOP models.

I'm looking at a Markbass LMIII with 151P and 102P cabs (maybe 102HF). Good reviews on the LMIII. $600 new at MF or GC.

Hartke LH500 is awesome... 350 watts @8 ohms when run through a 4x10. I gig with it every weekend and it is great!

I had an Ashdown MAG 210 combo..though I liked the tone..the transformer went during a band audition...embarrased! It was only 2 months old adn took over three weeks to repair under warranty...I traded it in soon after. Not worth it!

GK are built better and not too expensive.

I played an Eden mini-head that I really liked yesterday. I'll have to explore their line and see what else they have to offer. Huge bass. Good mids, and a knob that sort of... mutes the sound a bit - turn down the fidelity maybe? Was fun to play and sounded pretty good.

I'm curious about the E series, any Eden E series players on board?
