| | | | Which amp should I buy? Newbie here

Hey guys,
Well, as the title states, I really need to know which amp I should buy. I have a 4-stringed bass, and play together in a band with to mates. We don't do gigs yet, so the amp does not need to be big enough to play for others, just big enough to match my mates 75W Line 6 amp.
We play heavy metal like Metallica.
It does not need to be top-of-the line as well. As stated, I am a newb, and we have only played together for around 10 months. My budget is around 200€, but I may have to spend more if it is necessary. I am really looking forward to your advice, even though I am new to this great forum
EDIT: I have looked around and I have come across this: http://www.thomann.de/dk/behringer_b..._ultrabass.htm
Is it worth anything?

| | | | If your mates like their Line 6, why not get one of those? I believe the Line 6 Studio 110 is 75w, has a number of on board effects (including 'Grind" for heavy metal), and is a combo, so it is pretty easy to drag around.

Buying used can save you some money.
As a rule of thumb: as a bass player try to have the double amount of watts as the guitar.
Behringer is cheap but not always to the liking of many, to say the least.
Maybe spend a bit more (well, almost double :s) for one of these? http://www.thomann.de/be/ashdown_t15_250s.htm
But rather buy a used combo like a Peavey tnt ...

| | | Yeah, I am thinking of buying secondhand, but the problem is that not a lot of people are selling used amps here in Denmark..
Well, maybe I should get a Line 6 then, but was really looking for something a bit cheaper |

| | | | I'd look at matching a new Behringer head with a used cabinet. A used Peavey TNT would be nice too.
According to my friend who sells music gear, Behringer has overcome their quality issues. |

| | | About that, we are actually about to buy this PA setup http://www.thomann.de/dk/tamp_pa_4080.htm
It is very cheap, I know, but lets say we wanted to pay up to 300€, is there something else we should buy?
btw that SansAmp looks delicious |

Behringer does not have the best reputation, but from the real worlk experience of behringer products that I have handled; there's nothing wrong with them.
keep an eye out for the used market for a little while though, you never know who could be selling something!

Also, if you do go this route, I'd say BDDI for versatility and VT Bass for the SVT tone. VT Bass holds the edge over the BDDI in terms of rock, but BDDI is good for the variety of sounds you can make with it.
The deluxe versions of either pedals are great, I'd say it's more desirable (IMHO) on the BDDI though. Of course, if you're metal/rock through and through, being able to get all different levels of grind at the click of a button could be worth it for the VT Bass Deluxe. |

It is paired with an Aguilar 1x12 and sounds great. Before purchasing my cab...I used it with headphones. This model has lots of handy gadgets to help create your sound. http://www.thomann.de/gb/behringer_bxr1800h.htm
Many folks, here, bash Behringer...but, mine has worked well for me. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
