Hi, I need to buy a new amp. I play thrash metal, but I want an amp with different tones. I saw some GK stuff. Which amp do you recommend me ? I would use it to jam with friends and practice at home, but i want a better sound than my 35w combo. |

| | | | look at spendin like $400 and don't be close minded about used.
I would suggest 250 watts minimum.
I'll put in a plug for Traynor/Yorkville here.
I know it sounds like no help when people say "try as many as you can" but it really is true.
More to the point, in a perfect world, you would be able to try each in an actual rehearsal in the same room. Then you would have a good frame of reference.
In the end it's all about finding your sound and it has less to do with your gear and more to do with your technique.
Good Luck. |

Not too heavy to move about, plenty of power when you want it, and will be big enough to not NEED to upgrade as you start to play out. Coming from a metal background, I can tell you more unneeded power is way better than needing more power. Some clubs won't even run the bass through the PA and expect you to match the FOH volume. It takes watts and speakers to do so.
P.S. GO USED IF YOU CAN!!!
P.S.S. I use and stand behind Carvin for metal amplification. The tube pre-amp on my BX1500 gives me a nice growl without crushing the clean tone.
