Amp Stand

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys need some help. I have and amp stand I want to use so I can angle the amp up so I can hear it better. The problem is my amp head slides back on my speaker cabinet. Does anyone make a type of thing that would hook on the front of the cab and angle up in the back to hold the amp in place? If I can't find anything I guess it would be easy enough to make....

don't know of any myself. Maybe a thick bit of firm foam, with either velcro or neoprene (something sticky) on the bottom, shaped in a wedge-so as the amp sits flat??

Can you put your head on the floor between the legs of the ampstand somehow?

It may not be as accessable as you want, but it may help.

You could get a stool to put your head on, and have it just to the side of your speaker.

Does your head have its own case, or is it rack mounted? If it has its own case, you can replace the front legs, which are about 1/2" long, with legs that are 2" or 3" long, and hook them over the front edge of the cab top. Then if you are ever playing when the cabinet is flat, the amp will simply be tilted back a bit.

Or you could try velcro, depending on the angle.

The thing about putting the amp on the floor is guys in the band including my self tend to kick drinks over and I don't want that...

The thing with the stool is usually the bar gigs we do don't offer a lot of room.

Three solutions here:

1. Use the feet of your amp in combination with velcro on top of the cab and bottom of the amp.
2. Use two of these, made from wood or metal, whatever you're more familiar with.
3. A simple strap to keep amp and cab tight together.

Cheers!

I've posted these in another thread. looks like a great solution w/ minimal intrusion as the fold somewhat flat.

^^^^ This looks like the best option, IMO.. But really anything posted so far should work.

I use the bungee cord method, but you need to have a place to hook the cords on the cab. My cab has side handles, so it works well.

I like option #2. I guess I will have to make it myself. I was hoping for something I could just buy.

Bench cookies work well, and they're compact enough to fit easily in a gig bag:

Bench Cookie

I don't think I'd recommend Bench Cookies for that. Any mechanism based solely on friction is liable to fail with vibration. You need a positive lock. Hnz's suggestion #2 is good, but bulky. pasta4lnch's suggestion is like my extended leg idea, only better. If it was me, that's what I would go with.

If you make it out of an aluminium strip, it's not bulky at all. Two of them will easily fit somewhere in your gear- or gigbag.
And if you want to be on the safe side, put velcro on it and on your cab if it's not covered with carpet.

Pasta4lnch's suggestion is only better if you don't mind to put screws in your cab or (better) underneath in your ampcase.

only problem i have with most of the solutions is the ugliness factor. amp stand makers want to assume that we will all be using them with combos only. if someone invented an amp stand that would hold your head on without falling, i know a ton of people who would buy one. not me, of course...the only rig i have that could use an amp stand works just fine sticking a piece of wood under the cab

I have (when I use my amp stand) just put the 2 front feet over the edge and this has been enough of an angle/grip to keep my amp head in place.

True. From the diagram, I had in mind a single piece that would about cover the cab and serve as a platform for the amp. That would be bulky. Two strips would be convenient and not bulky. If it was me, though, I'd only feel comfortable using them with velcro, and only if the cab is carpeted. I know there wouldn't be much stress on the velcro if it was self-adhered to the top of a cabinet, but I've had bad luck with sticky velcro not staying stuck.

That's what I had in mind. If they're mounted under the front edge of the amp, the could flip down over the front of the cab when it's tilted back, and then that amp isn't going anywhere. But yeah, you have to be willing to put a few extra screw-hole in your amp.

Well, any solution is going to look funky, whether it's a piece of wood or two aluminum strips or two hooks. The hinged hooks though, if they're mounted under the front of an amp, have the advantage of being folded away and being virtually invisible when you aren't using them.

This is usually my approach. Feet hooked over the edge have always been enough to keep things where I need them.
