Amp suggestions for my new rig

I'm upgrading my bass gear within a few months. For the bass itself, I've narrowed down my choices to either the Thunderbird Pro V, or ESP LTD D-6, pending a test play of each. I've got no idea about the amp, though. What do you guys suggest for an amp under $800 that will fit well with either bass, give me a lot of control over the sound, and cut me through the mix in a band with two guitars, a loud drummer, and a synth? Stylewise, I play rock, electronic, and metal, and less frequently, funk.

GK MB800 is pretty much the only amp on my gas list these days.

That said, I'm a huge fan of the Drivecore power amps and a nice preamp. You can get a Drivecore 1500 for ~315 shipped, a rack for 70, and a used Yamaha PB-1 or similar preamp for 200 or less. Good way to go if you don't mind hauling a 3-space rack.
