Amp swap ..

Hi!
I'm happy with my current setup (Hartke head + 410). But few days ago, someone wrote me a mail, that he needs a lighter head and is willing to trade his Peavey vb-2 for my Hartke HA5500. At first I almost died of excitement (tube amp; freaking awsome), but I think something smells here. What do you guys think?

Try before you buy...that's all. I would be leery of someone out of the blue wanting to trade and I certainly wouldn't do it if shipping is involved, but if you can get your hands on it before money changes hands, should be OK if it checks out.

Yup, play it first, make sure it's fully functioning, then use your ears to decide.

I'm not sure I will be able to try it because he lives far away .. the good thing is he has a full 2 year warranty
what bothers me is why would someone want to trade a new 1300eur amp for a used 500eur amp .. how does he even know I have this amp?!

You'll ship your amp to him and either never receive anything or receive a box of rocks .

+1 we have a saying here in the US--- "danger Will Robinson, danger"

If you can't go check it out in advance IMO don't do it.

Smells to me. I wouldn't do it if I couldn't hear, touch, smell, and even lick the amp.

No, I'm not an amp licker, but you get the point.

Nah, I'd never ship him my amp just like that xD He said it is ok if we meet somewhere (like equal distance from both of us). That's a good way to make sure that amp even exist. I hope that guy is unarmed :P
btw is Peavey vb2 even worth the trouble and gas?

I have no personal experience with the amp. That being said, there are a couple of things that I don't like. An active EQ on a tube amp seems odd to me. The more active/graphic you get in the preamp section of a tube amp, the less "analog" it sounds to me. (But that's just me being picky, admittedly.) Also, to be an all-tube amp for well under a grand (US dollars) also throws up red flags. (Again, my issue.) If a great tube amp can be built for under a grand, then other manufacturers are really ripping people off. My gut feeling is that it;s not a great tube amp.

All my opinions with no personal experience whatsoever.

The "open box" Bugera 1960 I bought for $340 kicks arse .

Yp, found the problem .. I decided to give him a chance and he said we could meet this weekend. After I confirmed, he said like ''btw could you add few € the deal, maybe .. hmm .. 300?''
Still not a bad offer, but I think I'll skip it this time...

Actually the VB-2 sells for under $1000 new, so not a stretch to get one used for less.
