Amp tech

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm having trouble with my amp working. I took it to my friend who fixed the frayed cable and he tried to put a new fuze in but the fuzes keep blowing out when I turn it on. He said to take it to an amp tech but I wasn't sure if I can afford one or not. Would it be better to buy a new rig or take it to an amp tech? This might be a stupid question but I thought I'd ask due to the fact I've never dealt with this before.

If the fuse is blowing when you switch it on your amp has a problem. Take it to a tech and get it repaired or don't and have a dead amp. Those are your choices - what you can afford is moot.

+1 it's broken, so take it in to an amp tech and have it fixed. Or, don't.

Sounds like the power supply, fixing it should be cheaper than replacing it.

no it doesn't, it's most likely popped its output transistors.

True I'll take it to the tech it's probably some internal problem that can't be fixed by just replacing fuzes. Thanks guys

Techs will have a standard bench fee, probably around 60-75 $ to diagnose it. They should be able to then give you a repair estimate. Make your decision from there.

Lesson: A blown fuse is never the problem. A fuse is a protective mechanism. The fuse sacrifices itself when SOMETHING ELSE goes wrong with your amp. It does this to sever the connection to the rest of the components to keep the damaged part from damaging everything else.

Nothing is ever repaired simply by replacing a fuse, although sometimes a fuse may become defective for whatever reason, but if even ONE replacement fuse blows, don't try it again, get it to a tech.

Where are you located? Depending on where you are, some of us may be able to recommend a good tech.

Let's be fair here. It's one of the lowest grade items that they make and a combo to boot!

Hi amcginn4. I live in north Raleigh. The best tech in our area is Yontz, at Mad Science Works. Yontz is great. He has worked on my equipment when they've needed attention.
