Amp Volume Cutting Out

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello, I have an old Peavy TNT 130. It's been used since the 80s and had at least one speaker change by the previous owner(my uncle) Anyway as of late, when i start playing it starts to "crackle" and then the volume cuts to less than half of normal and all the tone goes away and it sounds like i accidentally rolled my bass' volume and tone knobs down. the only way to get amp "loud" again is to turn up the post amp gain to 9, which is the max and something i don't even use when playing outside or at a gig.

I have two bases. A Squier with Model Js, and a P bass. It happens with both instruments, but seem to happen sooner with the Squier.

So does anyone know what's happening? Is the speaker dieing?

This is how i set it up for playing inside: I'm not exactly cranking it to the max or anything close!

Looks like you've got a something connected to your out/in patch jacks, does the amp still cut out when your not using the patch jacks?

The Patch jacks are the effects loop. I've tried it with nothing plugged in, and the same things happen.

Try patching one to the other with just a signal cable.

i have a peavey that does this as well, it's a g**t*r combo, though, that i blew the speaker cone when i first started...i figured it was cause of that. Hope you figure it out so i can reap the benefit! I can't think of any reason for it to be doing that...
