The Amp Wars

Sign in to disble this ad
I challenge the fan boys of various manufacturers of bass amplification to put the entire line-up of current production models of your fav manufacture against this:

M-pulse 600
M-Pulse Walkabout
M3 Carbine
M6 Carbine
M9 Carbine
Big Block 750
Titan V12

This fan boy thinks Mesa rules in the amp wars...

Some company's only need one flagship amp to be the best...

...Like an AGUILAR DB750/751!

Or an AG500 if you don't have the cash.

Same. I love my Mesa D-180, but none of Mesa's current offerings really interest me.

I'm with ya. Sold my Ampeg gear years ago- running with a Bass Buster and a Walkabout. Two very different flavors of excellent.

I agree that there are single heads from boutique builders like Reeves that kick series booty... but in terms of a (somewhat) more mainstream manufacturer that builds a variety of models, every model in the Mesa line is pure win. Even their discontinued model line-up is legendary.

Yeah, can't say any of the current Mesa lineup really does anything for me. Maybe the V12, but I doubt it. And this coming from someone playing nothing but Mesa.

BTW, Genz Benz also currently has 7 amps out, and Gallien Krueger has 9 listed for sale on their site.

The problem is that I vastly prefer the discontinued lineup over the current one.

And maybe Reeves and Verellen aren't as mainstream, but I'd prefer a 225 or a Meatsmoke over anything Mesa currently offers.

Much of their lineup is aimed at a different market sector, but Genz Benz is bringing the heat right now as well. What a great time to be a bass player!

no offense, but i'm not a fan of Mesa.(& i've tried almost all of those, plus all of their discontinued models).
i prefer to stick with my SVT's.
and if i were to go with hybrid head, it'd be an aggie DB750/751.

I think the Mesa WA scout is a hard act to beat. But I'm a HUGE fan of SVT's & The Traynor YBA200

Have you A/B'd them, or is this a wish-list comparison?

Mostly wish list. I've tried the Mesa hybrids, though. Not so much into them. I was just noting that I prefer Reeves' and Verellen's lineups to Mesa's, even if they each consist only of one amp, both interest me more than Mesa's current amps. Not saying the Mesa hybrids are bad, as, I mean, come on, they're Mesas. They're good, just not for me. I didn't state Ampeg for the same reason.

For what it's worth, I'll take the amp I have, which is a discontinued Mesa, over the Reeves and the Verellen, though.
