Ampeg 410he + 115e vs 410hlf

So, I'm toying with getting rid of my full stack (410he + 115e) and picking up the 410hlf.

I've only read great things about the hlf, but I have yet to hear one. What could I expect from this cab?

panama, I did the same thing as you...I have owned most Ampeg cabs (8x10, 1x15, 4x10 (HE, HEN, HLF), and the 1x15/4x10).

I got rid of my 8x10 and got the 410HE and 115e and hated it....then I found an HLF and I have been rocking it for 3 years I think. It isn't as crisp as an 8x10 but the lows are there and it is easier to lug around than 2 separate cabs.

I say go for it! I love mine.

The 410hlf is great if you want a TON of low end. I used to have two of them and the midrange response was terrible, no much in the upper mids and it put out WAY too much low end at non-boosted settings. I got rid of them and I know have 2 newer Mesa Powerhouse 410's. An overall awesome cab in every frequency.

You should play it before you buy it. The extra low end this cab puts out is useless live - it won't help you be heard on stage.

I've used the 410HLF with a Markbass LMIII, Peavey VB-2, and an Ampeg V4, sounds very good with each amp. I would describe the sound as clear, more transparent and lower than the 810, yet the 810 is tighter in the mids with it being a sealed enclosure. You'd think me saying that the HLF is transparent would mean it's tighter sounding than the 810, it's not but you can definately still hear every note clearly. The HLF goes much lower than any sealed cab ever would, and in my reggae band it really sounds excellent IMO. On the other hand, I use an old sealed V4 4x12 loaded with basslites, and I think it sounds awesome in its own respect because it does the sealed thing and is punchy as hell. My tastes change so I like to have both cabs on hand for my mood. If I were to sell one I know I'd be regretting later b/c they both shine in their own way/category of sounds. One can do better at what the other can't, so that means keep both!

What don't you like about your 410he 1x15e ?
If you're looking for more bass, try putting the 410 on bottom.

I'm a bit sick of dragging 2 cabs around.

Also considering a 6x10

Try the new Mesa Powerhouse 610 - it's one loud and excellent sounding cabinet!
