Ampeg 410HE 8ohm to 4ohm schematic?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got an Ampeg 410HE, which is an 8ohm cab. I don't have another 8ohm cab to run with it, and I've heard you can change the wiring to make it a 4ohm cab. I'd like to do so, since my SVT Classic runs at 4ohms.

Does anybody have the wiring schematic for how to do this? Any experience / insight / advice about it? I'm all ears...

Hey Jimmy, thanks for the heads up. Isn't the 410HLF a 4ohm cab though? How is it that that one is able to be wired for 4ohms and this one isn't?

completely different speakers with different impedances. the 410he uses 32 ohm speakers, and i forget what impedance the 410hlf speakers are but they total up to 4 ohms.

The HLF uses (4) 4ohm drivers in series/parallel wiring.

you can still run your Ampeg Classic with the SVT 410HE cab, but you just don't get the full power from the amp .......

you can always add another 9ohm cab in the future to make up to 4ohm. i.e another 410HE .....

Isn't it bad for the head if I run it through a cab with a higher ohm rating? I've heard from some people that it can damage or stress the head.

Yes, you want to match the load to the head with a tube head, so yes, you need either a 2 or 4 ohm load for that amplifier. Running it at 8 ohms may not kill it right away, but you are shortening it's life. Dump the cab you have and get a proper 4 ohm cab, OR add another 8 ohm cab to it.

Yes, for amps without an output transformer it is ok to use any cab or combination of cabs above the minimum impedance. There is a ton of information in the FAQ if you would like a more in-depth explanation.
