Ampeg 410HE caster fix

Sign in to disble this ad
Reading more about this cab, I'm finding it has a reputation for caster trouble.

Here's the story...

A caster on one of my two 410HEs straight fell out of the bottom of the cabinet recently.
After half-assedly cutting the tolex away, I see the wood around the hole is all splintered and chipping out, and it feels kind of weak and spongy.

Are there any thoughts on replacing it, given that the immediate mounting area is in poor shape?

One thought I had was to use some woodfill on the affected area and then put in a new caster with a wider screw plate, but I'm not entirely sure that's a smart thing to do considering the weight the whole thing would be under.

I suppose I could just opt for replacing the caster all together and invest in a stronger, more reliable one that's larger and would mount securely beyond where the wood is damaged.

Might be able to mount a 'T' bolt insert in there then screw the insert into that for the castor to mount into??
