Ampeg 4x10HE tweeter problem Hey all, today I plugged into my old setup (ampeg v4bh and ampeg 4x10HE) and started playing and I noticed a metallic kind of buzz coming from the tweeter. I tried turning it all the way down(where it normally stays) and the buzz was quieter but definitely still there. Now this is where it gets kind of Wierd. I plugged my fender super bassman into the 4x10HE And there was no buzz or rattle whatsoever. Then I tried to my ashdown lb30 and again no buzz at all, even with the tweeter and treble cranked. Then I figured I'd try plugging the ampeg v4bh into my fender 4x10 neo and there no was no buzz at all and it sounds great, so I'm really confused as to what would be causing this and whether or not it's the amp or cab. Any insight would be appreciated! I did try tightening all the screws and taking the amp off the cab and there was no change. Let me be clear, it doesn't sound like a distortion or that anything is blown but I'm not expert! |
Anyone? |
Bump for a response :) |
Strange. You'll just have to keep rotating pieces until you nail it down. My guess is it's the cab--check all the wiring terminals inside. Maybe one is a bit loose/wobbly. |
Sounds like you blew the tweeter diaphragm, do you play with distortion with the tweeter turned up? Here's a link to where you can get a new diaphragm http://www.speakerrepair.com/page/product/10-191.html just ordered this one for my tweeter in my Aguilar cab, this diaphragm fits most tweeters in most cabs, pull your tweeter out and see what model it is. There is also a video on the link that shows you how to replace it, it's very simple. Hope that helps, Jeff |
It is noise from the V4BH. The HE cab having a higher frequency response made it noticeable. Have you tried your old setup again? It could have been a dirty input jack from non-use. |

Thanks for the replies! Ill look into the diaphragm. I've tried different speaker cables, instrument cables, different basses etc I do you use drives and distortions but I always play with the tweeter off even when I'm playing clean. About it being the amp..how would you explain that the amp sounds great with a different speaker? Also by "old setup" I just mean it's not my main rig but I still use it a couple times a month. |

The tweeter in the fender is definitely working though. |
Have you tried adjusting the "Hum Balance" on the V4BH for minimum hum? |
