I run an ampeg 410 HLF with the horn turned off, or at a really high crossover so its basically barely in use, only for a bit of the highs.

If its set to high i noticed it sounds really metalic and clunky, to much for me, maybe not so for Geddy Lee.

It just depends on how much HF you want to hear.

On my 410 I have it set about half way. It will click out if you pump too much power to it. I used to run it off, but started thinking it doesn't sound too bad at medium volume levels and its already in the box so why not. Maybe it already exploded and its not there anyway. HAHAHAHA.

I have both an SVT-410HE and a PRO NEO 410HLF ... all horns proudly turned-off completely

To quote another TB user (sorry don't recall) -- "I play Bass, not Treble" :-)

Cheers!

Any hiss is usually caused by a jacked-up pre or noisy power amp. You must be running a really clean pre, a good power amp, or your ears are shot from years of high-voltage rock-n-roll :-) I still stand by killing the tweet altogether, at least for the music I play... you are your own boss, you decide what sounds good to you!

I used to run mine with it off but now about half way. Same as with Bob though mine could be blown to smithereens so it might not matter.

Really? What year is your cab? What head do you use with it?

I've used tons of basses and heads with mine and it doesn't matter which combination I use, the minute the tweeter even gets bumped to being slightly on it hisses like crazy.

Do you have the highs cranked on your amp or are you thinking that it is the crossover setting for the tweeter? I use mine mainly with a Thunderfunk which is pretty smooth on the high end.

I use a svt 4 pro in mono bridge mode for high wattage

Bass + The right amount of mids and treble = Tone!

Very true! and a hornless cab is most capable of all three :-)

I look at this way, use of the horn tweeter is a personal thing

My holy grail cabinet of choice is an SVT-810 ... no tweeter at all (and I wish it fit in my car and dropped 100-pounds)

No guitar players I know use tweeters in their rigs and I think they would need them more than me -- but then again, that's why I play bass -- LOL!

Cheers!

Strange, as far as amps I've used an SVT-4 PRO, SVT-CL, SVT-VR, Orange AD200, SVT-350H, Gallien Krueger 700RB, and a few others I can't remember.

As far as basses a Musicman Stingray, Fender MIA Jazz, Fender MIM Jazz, Squire Vintage Modified Jazz, Fender MIA P, Schecter Diamond Custom P, and a few others as well.

No matter what setup I was using, I always had the hiss when the tweeter was even barely on. I'm wondering if it is just an issue with my tweeter. Whether I have highs cranked or if I have them all the way down, the crackly hiss is still there.

Do you like flipping on Ultra high buttons or EQing a lot of high end? That would do it.

My 4PRO's do not have an issue at all with hiss or hum and buzz even when 7200W is available. I also don't flip on any Ultra High or Low buttons. They'll just get you in trouble.
