Ampeg 810e Blown Speaker

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, I recently picked up this well used Ampeg 810e for $250, but it has a blown speaker. The seller told me about the speaker, but the cab sounded fine for about a month... Now the speaker is sounding blown.

I know what my options are for replacements, and I plan on replacing the top 4 (including the blown one) with Eminence Legend B810's.

What I'd like to know, is can I unhook the speaker and still run the cab with my amp?

The speakers in the 810 are in groups of 2 in separate compartments. I'd advise disconnecting the working speaker thats in the same compartment as the blown one. Being that the one isn't working, the one that's good is now operating in twice the cab volume it's supposed to be, could get sent into overexcursion and also blow. Connect the incoming wires to the outgoing wires leaving those 2 speakers out of the equation and run it as a 610. The resulting impedance would be roughly 5.33 ohms.
