Ampeg...

Right, I'm after a better sound so I'm looking into stacks out there but as you guys know, the market's very limited when looking at bass gear, so I feel like I should take advantage of these kinda' offers; I've been offered an Ampeg BSE 410 HLF, just the cabinet but for a good price.

What do you guys think? With no experience whatsoever in stacks or Ampeg for that matter, I need some input.
Thanks!

There are tons of good amps and cabs in the used market. Lots of stuff I wouldn't own, but you can always find stuff on Craigslist, Ebay, and here on TB. Ampeg is very popular, and lots of equipment is out there. You are going to have to audition that cab with your amp to see if you like how it sounds with your bass. It's a good quality cabinet, but it's up to you to decide if it sounds good.

Good cab, but something of a specialty item. The HLF has a bigger, woofy low end that's quite a bit different from Ampeg's usual offerings. If you do a search, you'll find that they're kind of a love-it-or-hate-it proposition.

Ohh fair enough, thanks guys. I've heard it's good for a really low end grungy sound yeah, just wanted more input. It's a pain 'cos I don't have the money for a cab or a head at the moment, so I can't exactly try before I buy with this cab.

I'm after a stack with real nice vintage tone but I know next to nothing about my cabinets and heads so while I'm here, does anybody have any tips or advice on ideal heads/cabinets out there for that kinda sound?

I think the opposite, that there's heaps of choice for bass gear at the moment.
But, try doing a search in this Amps forum, using vintage as your word-might give u some ideas
