| | | | Ampeg 8X10 NO TOLEX?? SHOULD I TRADE?

I have an ampeg 410hlf that I want to trade for an 8X10. I found someone on craigslist that wants to trade. He said his 810 has all the tolex removed because it was ripped so badly, and it is painted black. Do you think this is a fair trade? my 410 is in great condidtion(aside from teh horn not working which I dont ever have on and the kid said he wouldnt ever have it on either so its a non issue). Will no tolex affect the sound at all? Also it seems expensive to do my own repair, the tolex from ampeg is like 25/ yard or something. Any help would be much appreciated. |

Their resale isn't much different. If you really want an 810 and want one in better condition, sell your 410 for cash and buy an 810. |

I remember 'fixing' one once by removing the bulb and stuffing a wad of aluminum foil in the socket... Real MacGuyver (MacGruber) style...

| | | | Ive been looking for an 810 on craigslist here in NJ and all these guys are asking for like 700/ 850!!! Its crazy, Ive had 2 810s and sold them for 500 each time. (had to for moeny reasons). Thats why I may consider this tolex -less cab. AND the kid happens to be one town over from me!
But should I assume that because the tolex took so much abuse, that the speakers have had their share of abuse as well>? |

Once that corner is loose you can get the whole thing off. Then visually check each speaker for tears. Then with three fingers on either side of the cone, gently push in on each driver a couple of times to feel for any scratchiness. You don't want scratchiness. If that's all good and you can play through them and hear them and they sound fine, they will probably be good to go for a long time.
Sounds like a fair deal to me.
Good luck! |

| | | | The kid said its from 2004 or 2005. And its only got so ripped up because of constant touring. Im checking it out tonight after work. Hopefully I will be crapping my pants by 6pm. Oh, also Ill be using my svt 2 pro(which Ive been using with the 410hlf for about 6 months now, hence <hopefully> crapping my pants with the 810) |

| | | | SOOOO I made the trade yesterday and the cab is friggin sweeettt. Couldnt even tell the tolex was missing. The guy had painted it with some kind of black deck paint. Looks kind of cool because you can see the nooks and crannies of the wood!
I was gonna re tolex it but Im not even going to bother cause it llooks just fine. Rocked my socks off last night at practice. Destroyed my old 410hlf by miles. You could feel the tightest bass anywhere in the room. Im DONE looking for cabs forever. Its gonna be this or pretty much nothing else for me. Plus I play in a punk band and a loud indie band so I do NEED the size. Just awesome. I was used to my boomy 410, and the only way I can describe the 810 with my svt 2 pro is tight focused chest filling bass. Yummy. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
