AMpeg 8X10 Question

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a line on getting a 2004 AMpeg 8x10 Cab in pretty decent shape and light use for $500. Is this a good deal?

Right now I am using 2 ampeg 4x10s, or a 4x10 and 15....

now here is the silly question which i suppose i already know the answer: will there be a considerable power handling difference in the 8x10 cab? I am thinking there will be... Just wanna make sure its a good deal and worth doin... its a pain to haul around... but I never had one..

what do you guyz think

Even if there were, the published "power handling" has so little bearing on the cab, I wouldn't even consider it in this case. I'd play through both setups (2x 4x10s and 1x 8x10) and see which you like more, if either.

I recently got one for $550, probably in worse condition. If you wait you could probably get it cheaper, but it'll probably also be worse cosmetically. But yea, good deal. Not a steal, but good.

Be sure to give it a listen...I found that the 8x10s of that era are quite a bit darker sounding than ones from the '90s (and earlier).

me too. plus many of them are made with osb, although 2004 is close to the time they stopped. newer ones made in vietnam and s korea have corrected that, though.

there won't be any significant difference in power handling between it and two 410he's, although there will be a difference with the 410he and the 115e, the 115e being a limiting factor...i'd stick with two 410he's if you already have them...same basic sound. btw, while ray's comment about power handling is accurate to a degree, one company that's always been pretty accurate and honest with real world power handling figures is ampeg. most companies figure power handling by what kind of power it takes to burn out the voice coil, which is much higher than you can actually put through them in real world situations. ampeg's power handling quotes are based on how much power you can put through them before they start to make farting noises.
