Ampeg 8x10 Speaker spacing?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,

I just picked up a second Ampeg 8x10 (I got a good deal and i'm going to resell it) and i happened to notice that the front of the cabs are set up differently (They are both USA made and are 1 year apart)

The first cab has a slimmer side (Tolex and wood) and a wider grill cloth (The speakers are also wider apart)

The second cab has a thicker side (Tolex and wood) and a slimmer grill cloth (The speakers are closer together).

Its only about a 1/4 inch difference and both the cabs sound exactly the same. I'm wondering why there is a difference?

Help shed some light if you know anything!

Thanks!

Between me and my brother we have 6 Svt 810s spanning from 1972-2009. Each one was built with plywood of different thickness, so dimensionally all six differ slightly from one to another.

So the different design just varies from year to year?

I would assume it varies according to what kind of a deal they can get from various wholesale lumber suppliers.
