Ampeg in Australia

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all,
have been lurking here for a while but this is my first thread.
I was looking into purchasing an Ampeg SVT 7 Pro and ordering one from the States. The voltage switcher panel says it can switch from US voltages to 230V (Australian). Does this mean that a 7 Pro from America would be fine to run unmodified on Australian power? I was told in a guitar store that I'd need to purchase a power converter or something that would cost me around $200, is this true or just a salesman trying to convince me to buy from him?
Thanks

Au wall voltage is twice that of the USA. The amp may have a world transformer and could be rewired for your area, otherwise yes, you will need a stepdown transformer (a big one).

According to the manual, the amp has a voltage selector switch on the back, so all you'll need is an appropriate IEC cord. I'm glad to see this (or even simpler, automatic switching) on more and more amps lately.

The only thing you won't get is local service if something goes wrong.
