Anyone has any idea why Ampeg would discontinue what might arguably be their more compelling product offering? Isn't the Ampeg B-15 the most classic of classic amps? What gives? |

It is a cool amp in it's own right, and has the look of one of the best bass amps ever made, but it's heavy!!! Not at all a very practical amp.
If you're gonna do studio stuff, it's cool on half power, or you would just use an actual low power tube amp.
If your gigging with it, it's only 100w (most people want more - see SVT), and it's a huge amp to haul around... a V4-B head with separate cab would make much more sense. |

Now I have a BA115. Not exactly the same tone, but actually pretty close it though all solid state. The B15R used to sell at 2,500 € here, a new BA115 is less than 400 € and delivers 99% of the B15 tone.

If loudness were a measure of musical quality, we would have very little musical history.
