Calling JimmyM!

I found one of these and it seems to be in decent condition and probably an early 70s model. Any idea what it's worth?

Thanks!

It's worth whatever someone's willing to pay for it.

I've seen that rig go for between $300 and $650. The devil's in the details...

Back at Easter, I sold a real nice mid 70s B25B head for $385. Cab value determined by condition, missing or modified parts - handles, grill cloth, wheels, cart - and the biggie - Altec 421A speakers - or standard (probably eminence or CTS.)

Well, I just found out I can get this head and cab for $250. This should be an easy flip, correct? or am i going to be stuck with it because there is no market for this particular amp/cab.

Head and cab for $250 total? That's amazing. You could definitely flip the head for at least that if you don't like it.

Ok, he must be desperate. $200 for both now, and I'm going to go play it in about an hour and a half. Will check back in later with pics.

How do I know if the speakers are in good condition and that kind of thing?

Oh hell yes!

Even if the speakers are fried, thats a good deal.

And you'll know they work if they put out sound.

If they sound good they should be fine. If you push on the speakers and they rub then you may have bad voice coils (I believe?). The important thing about the B25s is that they use a 16 ohm output, and the cab will have a 16-4 ohm switch (series/parallel) to match. If it's really old it may need some work or new tubes, but for that head a cap job shouldn't be more than $100 and the tubes are all readily available so you wouldn't have to shell out for NOS tubes.

Not to mention, you don't need a whole lot of Tubes for a B25.

2 of the tubes definitely need replacing, but it still works and has a clear tone up until 3 o clock. The cab is absolutely PERFECT, I have never heard a 215 be so articulate and precise.

EDIT: By the way, checked the serial numbers, head and cab were made in Linden, NJ in 1969.

Ahhh, I'd love to but my markbass rig is just way more portable. I'm definitely gonna hold on to the Ampeg for a while though.

i hear what you're saying...my original plan for when i got my ampegs restored was to use my markbass head for the day to day stuff and only trot out the ampegs for special occasions where i was trying to impress. the lm2 just sounded so tubey to me that i really didn't think i'd care. so much for that idea

Thats funny you say that .. I always try the latest and greatest SS head and always come back to my trusty B25B. So I have decided to stop looking at other girls and be happy with my wife
