Ampeg B100R Grill Cloth Removal

Sign in to disble this ad
Just got one of these and noticed the tubing extension in one of the bottom ports has come off inside the cabinet. Also lost a couple of the threaded inserts for the top handle when I was cleaning underneath. How does one remove the grill cloth safely? Appears to be velcroed on pretty tight. Do I need a special tool? Thanks!

On the B200R, I ran a screw into a corner, about 3/4" in and pulled it up with pliers, it took a fairly good pull. The plastic velcrow is tough and you can't see where the screw was, just go slow and make sure the screw does not grab the grill cloth.

I use a bicycle tire lever and stick it in there to get it started. That velcro IS tight.

A straight-blade screwdriver worked fine for me to pry the grill off my B100R.

A video I saw on youtube had the guy partially unscrewing one of the screws holding the Ampeg logo in the corner, grabbing onto the screw with a pair of cloth wrapped (to protect the screw) pliers and pulling. Popped right off. Be careful using a screwdriver or other implement to pry it off, you can easily damage the cabinet.

Well, I found a long, skinny flat-blade screwdriver and was able to pry it off. Definitely on there tight!

Now that there's some high quality velcro! I used a butter knife.
