Ampeg B100R Question

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm in a 3 piece acoustic combo and I'm looking for a small but warm sounding combo for gigs. I've heard a lot of good things about the now discontinued Ampeg B100R. If I can find one of these on the used market, would it be loud enough to keep up with the acoustic guitars with the ocassional violin and/or soft drummer?

I agree that it would work swimmingly and I speak from experience as I own one. No, it's not for sale....ever.

Yup...and there are none for sale on Ebay either...these must be pretty good amps to not see a single one on here or Ebay for sale...

So does that mean I couldn't line it out to the house PA?

A great amp and plenty of power for most club situations (especially with PA). The line out works well too (although it is post-eq).

Another question about this fine but mostly unavailable amp. Is there a tube in the pre section or is it all solid state?

100% solid state - but sounds WAY more "old school" than 95% of hybrids with tube pre.

I have one that stays at the drummer's house for practice. It handles a loud guitarist and a medium hitting drummer never getting past 4 on the master volume. I love it for it's simplicity and tone.

Mine works great for acoustic situations. Probably to small to keep up with a heavy handed drummer. Line out works good, all you need is a DI box for PA support. Typical Ampeg tone (big and warm). If you buy one you will quickly see why no one wants to sell theirs.

I just recently learned that Ampeg stopped selling these. It's a shame really, because it's my favorite combo EVER! If I could figure out how to get that sound out of a high power rig, I would be done forever.
