Ampeg B100R vs. GK MB115

Sign in to disble this ad
Looking at getting my first bass amp to go with my Squier Jaguar and I was/am pretty much sold on the GK MB115. 200W, light weight and great reviews, sounds good to me!

Anyways I was in a local store today and they had a new old stock Ampeg B100R there, and I tried it out for fun, and it sounded amazing!

They are about the same price, so that doesn't matter, but the weight of the B100R is concerning, and it's only 100 watts.

Anyone play both and have any advice?

Personally like the GK, but BUY the one YOU like! If you like the B100R better it is the amp for you!

The thing that sucks is that I can't easily test drive the GK MB115, the closest place that sells them is an hour drive away. But I probably should at least play the MB115 first before deciding.

That is a MUST do. It may be a two hour round trip, but compared to how long you may own and use the combo? Drop in the bucket!

Oh and take YOUR bass!

The B100R is a really great sounding combo and loud for 100w. I don't believe the overall volume differential will be very significant but the weight differential definitely will be, so it depends on how comfortable you are lugging 60 lbs.

I'd take the B100R over any combo I've had experience with.
