Question Ampeg B115e VS. Acoustic B115

Sign in to disble this ad
At the moment, I'm running my GK Goldline 500 head through a Sunn215b cab. It sounds ok, but frankly, its too bulky and awkward to be bringing to shows if I'm not loving it. I've been looking to sell it and move to a 1x15 cab (eventually stacking it with a matching 4x10 for the larger shows), and now I just can't decide if I want the Acoustic or the Ampeg brand cab. It seems like every famous bassist uses the Ampeg 8x10, but their 115 model handles the same wattage and costs $100 more than the Acoustic. Can anyone tell me if there's a discernable difference I should be aware of? Otherwise I'll probably end up going with the Acoustic. Thanks!

it's been my experience that ampeg cabs always sound better than acoustic cabs and the extra money is worth it.

What are the dimensions of the Ampeg 115? Will an Acoustic B450 fit right on top of it, or can they be played side by side?

I currently have two of the Ampeg B-115e cabs. They have almost the same specs as the SVT-15e cabinets and practically the same dimensions but the 115e's weigh less. I am using them as a modular 2x15. They are nice, simple cabs and so far so good. We will see how they hold up. I would recommend them over the Acoustic cabs.

I am using them with old Ampeg heads; either a B25B or V4.

Do those ampegs stack well? They dont seem to have the indents for stacking like the svt115. I was amazed with the pf115 but when i hooked up to the b115e i was floored! I was using the new pf350 head and liked the matchup.

I guess maybe the ported box fit my ear better. Kinda feel bad i stayed away from ampeg after not digging the micro vr. Guess i shouldnt judge a brand by one model!

Unlike the SVT-15e cab, there are no stacking cups on the b-series cabs. The rubber feet are very "sticky" and the center indent does align with a screw head on the lower cab. For me it looked like enough resistance to keep everything stabile. But if you are really rocking out......?

How much do you want for the Sunn 2x15?

To be honest I no longer own these cabs. I had a freind who needed a bass rig so we made a deal.

The tone with the V4 was nice thru the B115e's at low and mid volumes, but it could get boomy at louder volumes. I would have to play with the EQ (add mids) in order to dial it in. It was not completely making me happy so the deal came thru at the right time. Part of it may be my learning curve with the Ampeg amps. I stummbled on two older Trace Elliot 1153t cabs and they sound great with the V4!

I also ran the V4 thru a SVT-15e. I know this is more of a traditional set up that many love, and it was just "ok" for me. Sold the 15e.

Next up was with an older SVT-212e that I picked up for cheap. The V4 did not sound very good but the B-25b sounded pretty good. Still not good enough for keeps so the 212 is now on the block.

My equipment has been on a merry-go-round lately.

So for me the story goes...
Ampeg amps - very nice!!!
Ampeg cabs - not so much (for me)

ps - My freind who got the B-115e cabs loves them! "Earth shaking lows" I think was his quote.

Is the b-115e wide enough for a b25b or a V4 to sit cleanly on top? If I recall, the b-115e is only 22.75 inches wide, and I'm not really sure how wide the amps are.

If its a Ampeg Vs Acoustic 1x15 - get the Ampeg.

All day long.

Trust me, my Acoustic 1x15 farts out with my Ampeg V4, even without a lot of bass being run into it.

Nobody knows the answer to this one?

I'm wondering how the B115E would do with the PF350; several have said it works well with the PF500, but I'm guessing the 350 would be more than enough for PA supported gigs (which is all I do).
