Ampeg B2r head...what cabinet?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey, I just ordered the B2r head on ebay...in spite of reviews I've read on here. I only need it for small venues, but I wanted to experiment w/something that wasn't a combo amp. My question is: What cabs go great with the b2r? I was thinking about an svt 15E. I think this would suffice for now, but I'm not sure. Would this work well with any 410 cab if I decide to link them up later? or would that be too much for the head? Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Stephen

I just traded mine in. Its a good head but I have too much stuff. I ran the Ampeg 410HE and at times (2) 115 cabs(8 Ohms each).. through it and at it was loud enough .

Get whatever you like, but try first. Also, if you want 15's get 2. Or stick with a 410. Don't mix a 410 with a single 15.

I really like my b2r!
Nice tone... I just leave all the settings flat.

I use mine with 2x12 cab.
I have played with quite a few musos and they always dig the tone.

My cab is 4 ohms to get the full power out of it.

Try it with your 4x10 and if you still feel like you want some more power and some more depth, throw a 1x15 cab underneath that.

Let me know how you like the head, you may be pleasently surprised.

Sorry I think I misread your post and thought you already had a 4x10.

Maybe try some different cabs out to see what you like.

I used to gig with a 4x10 but wanted more depth. I tried a 15.
It sounded better from across a room than the 10's but I missed the bit of punch I used to get from the 10's.

The 2x12 for me really worked well on gigs. I felt that it projected better than the 10's, while having the depth of the 15's.

I got a 4ohm cab because I wanted to get full power out of my amps, and I know I will never lug more than one cab around.

I read the reviews after buying it, and my needs aren't the same as the people's w/negative reviews...I'm getting this for smaller gigs. Would this head and JUST one b115e cab work well together? (the b115e is more affordable than the svt 15e at the moment on ebay). Are there any logical flaws in my thinking? Please let me know of potential problems with this setup. Thanks. (the b2r should arrive tomorrow!).

Should work great with 410 or 1-15 or 2-15 for that matter. If you really wanna wake that amp up you should run a VT bass in front of it or a bass pod. They are very dependable. I was running the SVT 350 (same amp different wrapper) at my practice space for two years and had zero issues with it. I would try some different brands of cabs with it unless you are just set on Ampeg.

thanks, badboyb, I'll try to see about a 2x12 cab as well. I was worried about missing the depth from a larger speaker...but I know the 15 won't have as much punch...I might try a 2x12 and a 15" together...just not sure yet.

I actually did the same test with that head a few years back.
We were playing a weekly gig at a RnB lounge, in a 7 piece band.

I wasn't truly happy with the 4x10.
I got hold of a 1x15 and a 2x12 to try out against my 4x10 at the club.

I got someone to play my bass while I stood in different spots around the club room.

The 15 was nice and deep but not as loud or as defined as the 2x12.

The 2x12 was better than the 4x10 when I standing further away from the stage because it seemed to project more and had more bottom end.

1x15 just didn't seem enough for me volume-wise, while the 4x10 had not enough bottom end to fill the room.
