Ampeg BA-112 Distortion

I just noticed my amp has a distorted sound when I sustain notes. I need some advice on where to look inside the amp and can I fix it myself?

Looking probably won't be of any help. Not likely you can fix it yourself without a strong electronics background. If you can access the speaker, gently push in on the speaker cone from opposite sides and listen for any scrapping sounds (blown speaker). A speaker you could probably replace yourself.

Very likely the 12" spkr has maybe been pushed a bit hard. The BA112 is "only" 50 watts, but capable of much higher transients, and the lone spkr can get abused. Have someone look at it who knows speakers, if you don't.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the help. I'll open it up and see what I can find. At least I can make it sound like I know what I'm talking about if I bring it in for repairs. ;-)
