Ampeg Ba-115 weird noise problem need help!

Sign in to disble this ad
bought it new about 6 yrs ago and never gigged it and never cranked it up loud either but it makes a strange buzzing noise when i play. Its more noticeable when playing slow whole note/ half note patterns. It sounds like an electronic vibration. Its not the 60 cycle hum-its not my basses either. Its not my cables. I have plugged it in elsewhere and the noise is still there. I have a small Peavey and used it in the same oulet/surge protector with no noises so I know its not the power source.
What can be causing this buzzing electrical sound only when I play? It has no dust or animals in it.

If the amp has effects in/out jacks, connect them with an instrument cable and see if the noise goes away.

If not, disconnect the power cable, open up the amp, and re-seat -- several times -- every connector you can find. Could be one or more are oxidized. Re-seating will scrape away the oxidation and give you a better connection.

Do the same with the spade connectors on the speaker lugs. And make sure they're tight.

If none of that does it, you might have a broken circuit board etch/trace, or a cold/separated solder joint somewhere.

There are probably other ideas I haven't thought of. But that's how I'd proceed.

Also, make sure your speaker screws are tight. Don't overtighten them but make sure they're snug.
