Ampeg BA108 Speaker Replacement

I have seen a few posts about putting in the Eminence Alpha 8A in the BA-108 as an upgrade. My amp basically just died. I never turned it above 2, barely played it. Sounded like a speaker. I have a stack at home and at the practice space so I didn't want/need to spend a ton to repair the BA-108 but it is nice to bring to small jams and such due to size. I bought a cheap speaker on eBay. It was $16.99 and almost and exact fit. 70w RMS and 140w peak. It's not the ideal speaker, I know but it works. It does sound a little quieter but it was a cheap, easy repair and is more than suitable for what I need. Just thought i'd pass it along for anyone in the same boat.

The tone sounded about the same as the orignal speaker. I haven't played around with it too much as I installed it on lunch break yesterday. I'll give a full tone review this afternoon.

Shouldda told us. I would have sent you my old one.

It's great that you found another replacement.

Looks like a good woofer for an 8 inch 2-way hifi speaker. It's a little shy on sensitivity, but should be ok for home practice. If the spec's are to be believed, it would best be used in a moderate size (1 - 1.5cf) sealed box. When you perform your 'tone test' try it stock, then with the port plugged (even with an old rag). Choose the one you like best.
